Sur La Table Sous Vide Equipment Cancelled

I had read several announcements that Sur La Table was going to be releasing a line of sous vide thermal immersion circulators in November but I had yet to actually see anything on their website. I emailed their media relations department and asked about their release and they sent me a nice note back.

They've cancelled their line of sous vide equipment because the vendor they were looking working with "could not meet our lead-free compliance policy". They also mentioned that "Our buyer is very interested in pursuing this line if we can find one that meets our standards." So if you are a producer of food grade sous vide equipment it might be worth giving Sur La Table a call.

While it's disappointing that they suffered a setback in making sous vide more accessible to the home cook it is definitely good to hear that Sur La Table has high enough standards to scrap an entire product line that doesn't live up to them. I'm sure when they do release their sous vide line it will be a great product.

Until then, and for a much less-expensive solution, you can go with a sous vide cooking controller.
