Good Sous Vide Ruler

A reader sent in the following suggestion for a sous vide ruler and I wanted to pass it on:
Go to your local fabric store and buy a sewing gauge. This is a metal 6 inch ruler with a sliding measure. It is also calibrated in centimeters. It is easy to measure the thickness of your food with this cheap little device.

Here's a link to one that they also provided. Dritz Sewing Gauge - 6 Inch. It's a wallet breaking $0.88.

There are lots of options out there for sous vide rulers including a printable sous vide ruler and a sous vide iPhone ruler but this one has a few benefits (and can be used in conjunction with the others).

This sous vide ruler is nice and small so it won't take up much kitchen drawer space. It also has a sliding scale so you don't have to write down or remember how thick it was. And it's metal and easy to clean, unlike your iphone, if you get raw chicken or pork on it.
